There is no better measure of the overall quality of life than the health of Acadiana’s residents. Health touches all aspects of a community, from where residents live and shop, to the air they breathe, the transportation they use, and the services they rely upon. Government often cites “health, safety, and the general welfare” as necessary and important public purposes. Therefore, the public health and continued wellness of the population must be of concern to the community as a whole.
Given the abundance of local health and wellness resources available in Lafayette, Healthy Acadiana will combine resources, organizations, professionals and individuals to increase the positive impact throughout our community. Healthy Acadiana will merge efforts with the Healthy Communities Coalition to improve the health and quality of life of our citizens by mobilizing communities through implementing policy, systems, and environmental changes to build a healthier Acadiana.
Healthy Acadiana is a systemic, community-driven coalition with a mission of improving social, economic, and physical environmental factors that contribute to a healthier mind, body and spirit for Acadiana residents. The coalition will coordinate efforts to address the identified major community health needs in Acadiana. Strategies that are researched, adopted and implemented will have the goal of improving the behavioral risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and overweight/obesity and their subsequent health outcomes.
We aim to change those outcomes!
